The National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency congratulates Chief Operating Officer (COO) Nico Padovan PSM on his Meritorious Award of the Australian Public Service Medal (PSM).
Nico received the PSM ‘For outstanding public service in program and policy delivery, including supporting the recovery and reconstruction of the livestock industry in North Queensland.’
As COO of the North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency, Nico played a pivotal role in the recovery and reconstruction of the area after the flood event that devastated North Queensland in February 2019.
He provided exceptional leadership in the immediate aftermath of the event, which saw the widespread destruction of livestock, agricultural operations and infrastructure across more than 15,000 square kilometres.
Nico engaged with individuals, businesses and communities to ensure the coordinated and timely delivery of Government support measures, including overseeing the dispersal of over $100 million in financial assistance to primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profit organisations in Special Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants.
His effective collaboration in bringing together a wide range of government agencies with primary producers, small businesses and local communities is helping build a strong recovery plan and strengthened resilience for those in the region.
“We are very proud of Nico’s recognition and acknowledgement. We are only as good as each other in these types of roles,” said Coordinator-General Shane Stone AC QC.
Shane also praised the outstanding contribution of all Agency staff who he counts as exceptional, dedicated “congestion busters’’ – getting stuff done at the coalface of the wider Australian community.
In the expanded role of COO of the newly formed National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency, Nico continues to assist both flood and drought impacted communities.
