My name is Emma Rush and I am the Regional Recovery Officer for the Townsville region.
I grew up in the small Riverina town of Finley, about 1.5 hours west of Albury, before moving north to Toowoomba and finally to Townsville.
I have extensive experience in the area of disaster management and was recently involved in managing State-led Community Recovery teams, which were responsible for supporting people and businesses impacted by the North Queensland monsoonal floods in early 2019.
I was also involved in providing recovery support to people affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, Cyclone Larry and many other significant weather events.
My disaster management work has given me a firm understanding of the impacts extreme weather can have on towns and communities, and a strong appreciation for those living in rural and regional areas who have been impacted by drought, flood, and now COVID-19.
These experiences of loss and devastation have made a lasting impression on me, and I feel a strong sense of duty to help people impacted by these types of events to rebuild their lives.
As a Regional Recovery Officer I will be working hard to strengthen the Agency’s ties with the community and ensure families and businesses impacted by flood and drought continue to receive the support they need to recover, now and into the future.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
