My name is Chris Clark and I am the Regional Recovery Officer for South East NSW.

I live just south of Wodonga in a beautiful little community with my partner and our red heeler. I come to this role having spent half my working life in the water industry and local government in regional Victoria, and the other half starting and operating small businesses.

I completed tertiary studies in outdoor education before finding employment with the then Rural Water Commission for five years, measuring stream flow and water quality. From the flat lands of the lower Goulburn Valley through to the high country of central and east Gippsland, there would not be many waterways in between that I have not seen.

Following this, I spent 14 years in local government in a number of positions.  One of the highlights of this time was overseeing the many changes at the council’s livestock saleyards operation. I relished the opportunity to get down to the yards to chat with stakeholder groups and individuals, making sure that our plans aligned with their expectations. I also spent 5 years in an economic development role where I supported our many small to medium enterprises. During this time I also completed an MBA degree and the Australian Institute of Company Directors' course.

Both these roles inspired me to have a go at a business of my own. I ran a successful mobile staging business for 13 years and following that  launched a forklift logistics operation. My experience of the ups and downs of an owner-operator business provided me with a genuine understanding of the risks, difficulties and rewards of the small business environment.

I believe the mix of water industry, government and small business experience provides me with a unique perspective for the role of Regional Recovery Officer. Whatever your business, whether as a farming operation, or one supporting primary producers and rural communities, I look forward to collaborating with you, your business and your community.
