The Agency's Regional Recovery Officer in northern South Australia recently caught up with Mary O'Brien, founder of the Are You Bogged Mate? initiative.
Mary said Are You Bogged Mate? is about talking with rural men around the country, in their comfort zone, about their mental health.
“We’ve been going to some pretty remote locations,” Mary said.
“We look to connect with men, and connect them to available support services. We talk to them in language they understand and making information practical, rather than getting stuck on the psychology-speak and the theory.”
“Drought impacts on families so getting in early and making sure they don’t get bogged down in mental health issues benefits communities.”
