Planning and preparing for drought at Indiana Station

Central Desert, NT

Agency staff enjoyed a visit to Indiana Station recently, where they met station owners David and Liz Bird.

Located 300kms north-east of Alice Springs in the Central Desert region, David and Liz have been producing beef together for almost 30 years through some of the driest conditions on record.

Because drought is a recurring feature of the Australian landscape, the Birds always plan and prepare for drought, even in good times.

Though they can’t control the rain, David and Liz manage their herd numbers and plan ahead to sustain their business through enduring dryness.

The visit was a great opportunity for the Agency to learn about David and Liz’s successful approach and to share their story.
