Julie Bird bought her sheep property near Inverell Shire Council in 2017, spending the first year repairing pasture and on-farm infrastructure. And then the drought hit.
Looking at options to generate additional income through this challenging time, Julie developed a range of merino sleepwear under the ‘Sleepy Merino’ brand using her own wool.
“I was aware of research into how merino wool garments helped people sleep at night and thought no one’s doing this so I gave it a go,” she said.
“It’s taking a while to build up the business but it’s now really starting to help. Most of us have a long road back from the drought and this part of the business will help.”
